The French Know

Today's article in Le Mode about the incredible wave of heat which has hit Romania during the last weeks reminded me about the similar summer the French (and not only them) have lived in 2003. And I was comparing two unfortunate figures, the number of deaths. While in 2003 in France there were over 14.000 deaths caused by the heat between the 1st and the 20th of August according to Wikipedia, until now in Romania the official figures show - I daresay "only" - more than 30 deaths. It may be that the French figures are excessively high and the Romanian ones artificially low or that the methods used to calculate them are radically different between the two countries, but nevertheless the difference still remains and is strikingly huge. So I guess that the Romanian authorities and all those involved in dealing with health related effects of the heat have done a damn good job.
