Go Go Go Vista

Funny news today in Le Monde Informatique. The biggest concern of the British partners of Microsoft is whether it is possible to downgrade to Windows XP after having installed Windows Vista, the latest Microsoft desktop PC operating system. The biggest issue is that you need a substantially more powerful box to run Vista than XP, 2 GB of RAM and a Dual Core CPU should do the trick, and still a lot of drivers are missing. In these conditions I'm not surprised that companies with thousands of employees using a desktop PC in their everyday job are reluctant to spend huge amounts of money just to upgrade. Upgrading the hardware is only one component of the overall cost, the other being acquiring - if needed - new Vista compatible licenses to upgrade the existing software the company is using in its everyday activity. Whole lotta fun!
