Le Monde Endorses Ségolène Royal

The news came via the French Election blog. The campaign is over and the daily newspaper Le Monde published an article "cautiously endorsing" the Socialist candidate Ségolène Royal. This irritates me profoundly. It's not about supporting one candidate or another, I don't expect journalists to be impartial about the elections, on the contrary, I expect them to come out about their political preferences if they have any and sustain them with good arguments. This might actually help the debate. But don't do it at the end of the campaign, better keep quiet until the end. Instead come clean right from the beginning, this way the readers will know how to understand what they are reading. Otherwise it's at least a lack of respect towards the public, or plainly taking people for fools during the entire campaign.
